Volker Beck and Crystal Meth

No crystal meth user starts with this drug. It's at the end of a long step ladder. A long period of attempts with euphoric, narcotic or drive-enhancing drugs preceded it. Every drug user knows what they are getting into. The substance does not make anyone dependent, everyone makes themselves dependent on it. Is the ban on the consumption and trading of these substances a restriction on sovereignty? Yes that's it. But society is entitled to do so. Because every deal with it, the purchase or bringing it into circulation is a social act that, like any other socially relevant activity, is subject to moral and legal rules. Nobody who drinks himself to death in his little room or prepares an intoxicating drink or inhalation with legal substances has to fear interference by the state organs. Attempted suicide is not punished either. But every contact with other people is subject to rules and must be. And why does an addict strive to be in public and not stop at silent, private and secret consumption? Because it is part of the essence of addiction to have two souls in one's chest. On the one hand, the recognition of the political public, the employer or the family is sought; on the other hand, the service provided is perceived as inadequate, stressful and as a limitation of personality. Some parts of the personality wither, become suppressed. Psychoanalytically there is no difference between Uli Höneß and Volker Beck. In this context, referring to the stress of performance in our society is of little use, because creating a society that does not cause stress will take some time.
