Sanders, Corbyn and the New Left

Capitalism knows no compromise; the (class) contradictions cannot be resolved, the class struggle, the struggle between rich and poor leads to a permanent victory for the haves. The gap between rich and poor is growing. Large parts of the proletariat have no chance of getting out of poverty. You become demoralized and driven into depression. The promises of social democracy are no longer catching. The lower class no longer believes them and the middle class feels better addressed by the conservatives or the right. The disappointing social democracy is growing up in competition in the New Left, which it looks on without understanding. In England, as in the USA and Hong Kong, there is a class of younger voters who, in contrast to the old left, have little ideology. However, a social system geared towards acquisition and capital growth is not enough for them. They perceive the major social scandals such as bank frauds, the corruption of FIFA and the IOC, and the frauds of car companies not to be a slip-up, but a system-related one. They take note of the tax exemption of international corporations and the tax evasion of large social groups and this gives them the moral impulse to distance themselves from it. The concept of the liberal constitutional state is perceived as a hollow promise.

On the other hand, a conservative current is forming which makes the same observations, but believes in the preservation of old principles and the preservation of the old social order in order to be able to save the advantages of capitalism for itself. Under these circumstances, Hungary is arming itself against the influences of liberal Western Europe, France is seething, the ruling Pis party takes over the state in Poland, Brexit supporters strive for the return of national sovereignty and Trump supporters want the restoration of American hegemony.

Will the New Left conjure up a new era with Snowden as its figurehead? Whether “in the place of the old bourgeois society there is an association in which the free development of everyone is the condition for the free development of all”?
