Every SPD candidate still has the ugly smell of Schröder's Hartz laws, fixed-term employment contracts and mini-jobs, all reforms for which Schröder and Fischer are still applauded by employers today. The SPD base, however, no longer believes its functionaries after being so shamelessly betrayed.

As Schulz struggles in the election campaign, but his party is indeed responsible for the misery of the lower classes. A departure from the Schroeder agenda would probably take Schulz, but he was not allowed to distance himself explicitly. So there remains a skepticism in the SPD voter group; The party has yet to lose many more Madatee and give more officials and thus weakened the right wing, before the party again makes credible social democratic policy.
