The attack of Barcelona shakes our attitude to life

Yes, the attack is an attack on “our way of life”. All politicians, whether Theresa May, Sigmar Gabriel or Hollande / Macron, agree. But the insight does not go further. The fact that the West could be attacked because it destroys “the way of life” itself, even the livelihoods of the states from which the attackers come, is not said about it, it is ignored.

In Egypt, the elected President Morsi was overthrown by the US-supported military and installed as ruler of al-Sisi. Riots were put down and the prisons filled. So the Egyptians were prescribed their “way of life”. In Iraq it was only Hussein who was equipped to fight the Persians, his poison gas attacks against Kurdish citizens were tolerated and finally he was hanged for increasing insubordination. In Syria, the poison gas attacks of the regime, which was increasingly oriented towards the east, were condemned by the west and rebel armies were armed from the west. The napalm bombs of the Israeli regime on Palestine were mentioned briefly, but quickly disappeared from the reporting and the political class of the West excelled in congratulating the Israeli political prominence for the successful suppression of the intifada. What “way of life” do the Palestinians have? Miserable existences.

Western corporations are still bribing the Nigerian government clique to exploit the country's wealth of oil resources and fill the corporations' funds. When the resources are exhausted, poverty and destruction are left behind.

The list of interventions by Western powers to “defend our way of life” and maintain our standard of living is a long one (including the names of Allende and Fujimori). The colonialism of the West still persists and has only changed its face. Sykes and Picot are still alive.
