The German anthem was supposed to unite conservatives, liberals and leftists. The neoliberal ideology of capitalism, which has dominated for decades, has infiltrated and disintegrated all currents, at least in Western Europe.

In brief periods of history, conservatives could believe that there would be a nation within which they would take a place commensurate with their rank without taking anything away from other classes. Liberals stood for the permeability of the class system and leftists dreamed of overcoming the class system.

In the very short phase of the FRG under Brandt, this narrative dominated, which was also adopted by conservative circles, albeit reluctantly. With the Kohl era and his “spiritual-moral turn”, this phase was finally over.

The flat neoliberalism, which relied solely on the increase of capital, was able to prevail in the shadow of the competition of the superpowers. With a lot of propaganda efforts, supranational organizations (EU ...) were brought into being and the workers of Eastern Europe brought to the capitalist exploitation. (VW, Tönnies etc.) This phase is definitely over. Poland and Hungary recognized this early on and are resisting. They are also the first partners when a new international base has to be built after the complete collapse of the capitalist system.

Would a new national feeling be a contradiction to a social, socialist internationalism?

Reconstruction will only take place through national structures.
